First Aid

How long is a first aid certificate valid for?

First Aid at Work (FAW) and Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) certificates are normally valid for three years from the date they are issued. After that they are out of date, and the holder should no longer be counted as a trained first aider.

Annual refreshers

The Health and Safety Executive recommends that first aiders take a short refresher course each year between full courses. CPR and other skills fade quickly if they are not practised, and a refresher keeps them fresh.

Renewing First Aid at Work

To renew a First Aid at Work certificate you take the two-day requalification course. It revises the whole syllabus and gives you a new three-year certificate. Book it before your current certificate expires so that your workplace is never without cover.

Renewing Emergency First Aid at Work

Emergency First Aid at Work is renewed by taking the one-day course again.

Keeping track

Keep a list of your first aiders with the expiry date of each certificate, and book renewals a few weeks ahead.

If you need to train or renew first aiders, see our first aid courses or get in touch.
