Safeguarding

Who needs safeguarding training?

Safeguarding means protecting people’s health, wellbeing and rights so that they can live free from harm, abuse and neglect. It is not only the job of social workers and teachers. Anyone who works or volunteers with children, young people or adults at risk shares some responsibility for it.

Who should be trained

  • early years and childcare workers
  • teachers, teaching assistants and other school staff
  • youth workers and sports coaches
  • care and support workers
  • volunteers in charities, community groups and faith settings

What a Level 2 Award covers

A Level 2 Award is an introduction. It explains what safeguarding means, the main types of abuse and the signs to look for, how to respond if someone tells you something worrying, who to tell, and why confidentiality has limits. It also covers your own role within your organisation’s policies.

Lead roles

People with lead responsibility for safeguarding usually need further, higher-level training. If you are not sure what your role needs, ask your employer or contact us.

See our safeguarding courses for details.
